چکیده

Introduction. Glutathione peroxidases are selenoenzymes which have a crucial role in the protection of animals against oxidative stress. Materials and Methods. From September 2017 to April 2018, group eight red-eared sliders were admitted at Clinic for Small Animals, Faculty Veterinary Medicine, University Belgrade elective diagnostic celioscopy. The turtles unknown age, weight from 1.20 kg 1.86 kg. anesthesia protocol involved using ketamine medetomidine, both low dosage (10 mg kg-1 0.1 kg-1, respectively) as induction, after was maintained isoflurane 3% (vapor setting) 100% oxygen (0.5 L min-1). Medetomidine reversed with atipamezole (0.2 kg-1), given intramuscularly. celioscopy performed according standard protocols. One day prior anesthesia, heparinized blood samples taken subcarapacial venous plexus venipuncture. second sampling took place three hours anesthetics administered. Results Conclusions. GPx3 activity plasmas (n=8) measured by coupled test described G?nzler et al. (1974). Data tested normality Shapiro-Wilk groups compared paired t-test. Blood plasma significantly higher (p=0.009) three-hour recovery period inhalation celioscopy, than before anesthesia. post-anesthesia activities were, on average, 80% measurements It can be concluded that statistically significant increase 91.02?36.05 mKat L-1 160.21?58.94 is due change saturation. This increased during procedure, thus exposing conditions high

Restore to good health in baby turtle, Trachemys scripta elegans with chronic anorexia and blind eyes

As the first case, a baby red eared slider turtle, Trachemys scripta elegans, 1.77 inches long, with a 4 month history of anorexia and blind eyes was referred to the Aquatic Animal Clinic, School of Veterinary Medicine, Shiraz University, Iran. The eyes of the pet were swollen and he was not active in swimming and feeling around. In the clinic, after stress treatment, he was kept in a clean aqu...

Phallus development in the turtle Trachemys scripta.

Development of a phallus occurs in almost all amniotes; however, considerable variation in phallus morphology among different amniote lineages has contributed to the debate about their structural homology. Mammals are the only amniotes that form a closed urethral tube within the penis. In contrast, the phallus of reptiles and birds has an open urethral groove, or sulcus spermaticus, that facili...

Effects of exogenous corticosterone on locomotor activity in the red-eared slider turtle, Trachemys scripta elegans.

We investigated the effects of exogenous corticosterone on the locomotor activity of captive red-eared slider turtles, Trachemys scripta elegans. An increase in plasma corticosterone often increases locomotor activity in mammals and birds, but there are no reported findings for turtles. In this study turtles implanted with corticosterone-filled Silastic((R)) implants showed a significant increa...

Effects of anoxia exposure and aerobic recovery on metabolic enzyme activities in the freshwater turtle Trachemys scripta elegans

The effects of anoxic submergence (20 h at 7°C in nitrogen-bubbled water) and subsequent aerobic recovery (24 h at 7°C) on the maximal activities of 21 metabolic enzymes were assessed in liver, kidney, heart, brain, and red and white skeletal muscle of an anoxia-tolerant freshwater turtle, the red-eared slider, Trachemys scripta elegans. Anoxia exposure affected the activities of only a few enz...

Radial glia in the proliferative ventricular zone of the embryonic and adult turtle, Trachemys scripta elegans

To better understand the role of radial glial (RG) cells in the evolution of the mammalian cerebral cortex, we investigated the role of RG cells in the dorsal cortex and dorsal ventricular ridge of the turtle, Trachemys scripta elegans. Unlike mammals, the glial architecture of adult reptile consists mainly of ependymoradial glia, which share features with mammalian RG cells, and which may cont...
